Learning about the French
The lecture on Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel presented by Céline Glon was captivating.
Her ability to express their passion for one another was truly moving.
Honestly, I was not too familiar with either of them before Thursday night, but after leaving the lecture felt that I had a wonderful understanding of both of their lives.
I couldn’t help but feel compassionate towards and sorry for Camille because of her constant struggle to prove herself as a sculptor. Always in the shadow of Rodin, I understand why her frustration led to her being emotionally unstable. Not only was she an unappreciated artist, she was constantly reminded that she was “the other woman” because Rodin never intended to leave his wife. She was never given the credit she deserved and her struggle ultimately led to her being institutionalized in an asylum which I find extremely tragic.
I was very impressed by Ms.Glon's knowledge of the topic. She was a wonderful presenter and I will definitely be interested in following more of her lectures.
