What does "wall ready" really mean?

One of the few requirements we have here at the MAC regarding the membership exhibition, besides a necessary size limitation, is that your art be "wall ready".

But what does "wall ready" mean? To answer that, and to explain why we *do* try to be as accomodating as we can be, I just want to ask that you understand the enormity of the task of a small staff hanging 200 artworks in 2 days, and put yourself in our shoes, It is simply not possible for us to spend our time wiring your paintings or chasing down specialized hardware.

What we require, simply, is that we don't have to think, worry, or solve problems as we install.

"Wall Ready" does not require d-rings, wire, saw-tooth strips, or any other specific devices. We are happy to hang an unwired painting on sheetrock screws.

What we ask, is that YOU understand how your piece needs to be hung, that if it requires any hardware other than hook and nail, that you include it with your piece, and not *assume* we have the L-nails, pushpins, fishing line, etc that you require.

Our goal is to measure as little as possible (which is why d rings are actually not so desirable in a situation like the member show), whack in a nail or hook or two, and go onto the next.

We are happy to hang your drawing with pushpins through the corners, if that is your concept. We are happy to hang your piece with a 16 penny nail, whacked smack-dab thru its middle - just as long as you bring us the push-pins and 16p nail and show us where to place the damage!

(We do think however, that 'out of money' is maybe not a good art concept, and BTW, buyers *do* like frames if you are hoping to sell your piece. )

Hope this helps.

See you tomorrow or Saturday!
